An Artisan Who Creates Masterpieces of Fine and Decorative Arts in Wisconsin

THE LAST LORDSHIP

The Last Lordship gives unprecedented access to one of the castles of a kingdom founded in 1856 which has quickly spread throughout the world and is said to exist in a parallel universe to our own. Every knight, upon entering their castle, leaves their “profane” name behind and assumes a fantastical designation given to him by the kingdom. Inside the castle there can be no talk of business, politics or any other mention of the outside world so that the core tenets of art, friendship and humor can be practiced.

Throughout the film it is revealed, however, that the kingdom is crumbling as the knights are getting older and much fewer people are interested in joining their ranks to defend friendship, art and humor in an increasingly inharmonious United States of America. The castle is on the brink of extinction but is determined to continue being the threshold to a parallel universe, in which tolerance is promoted and egos deflated, for as long as it can stand.

TOLEDO MUSEUM OF ART

Inspired by the express wish of Florence Scott Libbey to leave behind a Toledo Museum of Art that aims to "encourage attendance on the part of all people irrespective of condition of life", the film installation accompanying Beth Lipman’s ReGift, focuses on the Toledo Museum of Art's ethos of catalyzation.

In keeping with The Chipstone Foundation's commitment to innovative interpretation and arts education, the video showcasing of the Troubled Like the Restless Sea exhibit at the Milwaukee Art Museum will be the first example of a virtual exhibit produced as an engaging and enriching short film.

Reinventing the concept of the virtual exhibition, Chipstone will continue to demonstrate the importance of virtual exhibitions by offering viewers a whole new means of exhibit exploration that provides its own unique insights into the story and concepts being conveyed onsite. Stunning cinematography of Chipstone collections and captivating audio by professional voice-over artists of the exhibition texts will create a virtual exhibition that broadens Chipstone’s impact to educators, students, and audiences curious about innovative museum practice.

The CDMC will host a conversation around Beth Lipman’s House Album, a short film by Atesh Atici now playing in the Milwaukee Film Festival. The film explores the metaphorical possibilities that are developed through Wisconsin-based artist Beth Lipman‘s installation House Album, which is now on view at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York City as part of a mid-career retrospective of Lipman’s work titled Beth Lipman: Collective Elegy which was curated by MAD Collections Curator Samantha De Tillio. Set in the historic Pabst Mansion, the last extant mansion along what was once Milwaukee’s Grand Avenue, the film explores how material things move through time and accrue new meanings in new contexts.
